| |
The City Attorney is an officer of the city of Lagrange as defined under the Citys ordinances. His or her role is to serve as the chief legal counsel to the City. His or her duties include advising city officials, including both the executive branch and its subdivisions, headed by the Mayor and the legislative branch made up of the City Council, pertaining to legal matters pertaining to the interests of the city. The city attorney represents the city in legal actions in which the city is an interested party mostly as the plaintiff but possibly as the defendant in actions against the City. (Note: the city has insurance and under its cover attorneys are hired to handling defending the City against claims made) The City Attorneys presence is required under local ordinance at all city council meetings and may be requested at other types of legislative body meetings to provide legal advice and guidance to the City so that it remains in compliance with its own ordinances and state statutes (KRS) The city attorney is appointed by the mayor and requires approval by the City Council. They serve for a two (2) year term subject to reappointment and approval.
