Information for Residents

The employees of the City are often asked by residents what they receive for their tax dollars.  Listed below are some of the services and benefits provided by your tax dollars.

The LA GRANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT provides 24 hour police protection to the residents of the City.  They constantly update training and equipment to provide a safe environment for residents and visitors as well as enabling them to enforce laws and ordinances.  The La Grange Police Department also maintains a K-9 unit.

The LA GRANGE FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT provides 24 hour fire protection.  Your tax dollars help to maintain their equipment, the firehouse, insurance, etc. to be able to provide this service.

The LA GRANGE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT is primarily responsible for maintaining the various City properties.  They handle the paving,  maintenance and cleaning and snow removal of all City streets. They construct and maintain the sidewalks, aid in the beautification of City features, plant and maintain trees and decorative plants.  They mow and maintain the grass on City right-of-ways as well as the Parks.  The Public Works Department is very busy during late November and early December putting up Christmas decorations and preparing for Light-Up-La Grange.  They are also very busy getting the City ready for the Street Dance and Oldham County Day which is held on the third weekend of each July.

The CITY HALL ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF are available to answer any questions you have about the City.  They collect your tax dollars, as well as business license payments, insurance premiums and franchise payments.  They also reserve the parks for your events.  The Administration Department pays all of the bills for most departments in the City and processes the payroll for most City Departments, as well as the Mayor and Council.

The City has franchise agreements with various service providers, such as Insight Cablevision and Industrial Disposal for garbage pickup, which is billed by LA GRANGE UTILITIES COMMISSION Franchise agreements make it possible for you to receive lower rates for these services.  We also have a franchise agreement with Kentucky Utilities for streetlights paid for by the City each month.

The City sponsors two major festivals each year.  The Oldham County Day Street Dance is held on the third Friday of each July and Light- Up-La Grange is held on the first Friday of each December.

There are three PARKS located within the City of La Grange, with two more which will be available soon.  These parks offer picnic facilities, restrooms, playground equipment as well as a golf course and a 30 acre fishing lake.  Walsh Park is also the home of the North Oldham Little League.
