Talk to the Mayor..
Mayor I Live on Main Street and was finishing up an early morning dog walk today (Thursday Dec. 22) by sitting for a few minutes on the bench across the street from Gallery 104. A CSX train came through at 5:22 AM. As the Engineer past just feet from me, apparently unaware of my presence on the bench, he reached from the window and grabbed a hold of the bottom strand a Christmas tree lights ripping them from the tree. The lights are now hanging and obviously inoperable. I was so amazed at the true lack of respect from someone who is in a position that many in La Grange look up to, as the train and La Grange just go hand in hand from us locals to the tourists that I didnt even get the numbers on the lead engine. All I saw was a red t-shirt and a ball cap. The train was hauling automobile frames. I must say living on main and becoming so used to the trains that pass all hours of the night and day I lost a good bit of respect for CSX. Im sure though if you wish to find the engineer responsible for the vandalism you have more than enough information to do so. Thank you for your service to the community.
We have reported this to CSX and have copied you with the email. Thanks for letting me know. Bill
Issue: How can we stop people from assuming there is a stop sign for drivers traveling east on Main street at the corner of Walnut Avenue? As you're traveling east on Main, people coming other directions DO NOT REALIZE this is actually a 3 way stop and and not a 4 way. In the 6 years I've lived in LaGrange, I've narrowly missed 5 instances where I could have gotten into a wreck. This is always followed up by an opposing driver cursing at me, etc because they assume I have a stop sign. How can this be fixed?
This winter we are building a bump out just like the one on the North West side. When we do that we will be changing it to a four way stop.

MR MAYOR I live on chestnut street and was wanting to know how long it is going to be before we get our speed bumps or an lpd officer to check speeds in the afternoon. some drivers doing at least fifty in a twentyfive speed zone . children play in the street hear and it's just a matter of time till someone gets hurt or worse mabey killed. j caffee
Birch street is on the list to receive its hump in the next week or two. I will try to put Chestnut on that same list. We are behind in paving as of now but are working hard to catch up. I have given Public Works a long list of things that need to be done. I will let the police know to watch for speeders in the afternoon.
Thanks Bill
Thanks Mayor for all you do for La Grange. I was wondering when we are getting sidewalks down Jericho Road. We have a lot of people using the road for walking which makes it very dangerous. Thanks for your help.
That project is in the 2011/2012 budjet. It will be done sometime this spring.

Mr. Mayor,
As a resident of La Grange I am concerned as I have started to notice graffiti throughout the town rather suddenly and appears to be gang related. What is being down about this? Is funding available to step up patrol of the La Grange Police Department? And are any plans in place to remove this from stop signs and such?
We have talked with WalMart about selling paint to kids. We do not have the funding for more patrols by our Police. We are very aware of this matter if you have any cost effective manner we can handle this issue please feel free to come by the office so we can discuss or call me at City Hall. Thanks again
Dear Mayor,
Can we please look at the feasibility of adding a turn signal to the traffic light at South 1st st. and East Crystal Dr? I can attest to the fact that this intersection has been the scene of many accidents during my career as a first responder for the county. On a lighter note, I have enjoyed your walking tours of La Grange over the years. Thanks.
We have talked to the State Trans. about this for years. This will not take place until Hwy. 53 is made into 5 lanes. As of now we could be looking at 3 to 4 years. Bill. L.

Dear Mayor,
As a community with a unique environment with a Train that runs through it. I have noticed there are no horn signs in downtown La Grange. I currently live in Woodland Lakes Subdivision. I am always disturbed during the night by the trains constant blowing of their horns by our subdivision. Can we possibly get no horn signs put in so we can have some peace and quiet at night as the trains pass by?
Thanks again for help in this matter I greatly appreciate it.
Hi Matt
This has been a issue for a lot of La Grange residents for a lot of years. The issue is that Fort Pickens Road is not in the quite zone, so therefore the FRA mandates that the train sound its horn. The signage you mentioned is located within the quite zone. Basically its not the signs that keep the trains from blowing it is the zone. If you have any more questions feel free to contact the office. We would be more than happy to give a more detailed explanation.
Thank you for your question

Dear mayor
This is Ashley I am a camden student from visiting today. I just wonderd do you always work do you ever get time off?
your freind, Ashley Reynolds
Thanks for your question Ashley, I do get time off from being Mayor, but I am on call 24/7. I do not consider my job as Mayor work. People like you make it fun and exciting. Today I am having lunch at La Grange Elem. School. Talking with the young people like yourself is what I like best about being Mayor. You have a great day and study hard. Bill
Last summer(2010), the play structure at Wilborn Park was destroyed by fire/arson. Several months after that I called the City because it had not been rebuilt. A gentleman at the City said that they plan to replace it but that they were in the process of selecting a better location within the park to build it. When does the City plan to rebuild this play structure? It was a great asset to the park and while my family still visits the park frequently, my children miss not being able to play on the former play structure. I'm sure many of the other children and grown-ups we used to see there feel the same.
Jim, let me start by saying thank you for your interest in our parks. The grading of the area has been done, and with the cost to replace the equipment being over $20,000 it had to go through the bidding process. Those bids are to be opened on at the next Park Board Meeting. This being said we are hoping to have the apparatus up and ready to be used by the first part of May.
My fiance recently had an accident leaving the courthouse. She fell while on the courthouse property. She was given an allotment of $5,000 to handle any medical expenses she might incur. The problem is that the MRI she had done ate through that amount. She was instructed that if she needed more money "she would need to get an attorney and sue". This isn't what we want to do because attorney's aren't interested in suing for a few thousand $$$ (on contingency) and she isn't looking for "pain and suffering". She only want to pay for her Orthopedic Surgeon's bill (roughly $2,500). Can you please advise us on how to handle this. Thank You.
Dear Mr. Walsh, I am truly sorry about your fianc and the injury she received. Because the accident happened on County property the City of La Grange can't do much to help with her medical bulls. I certainly understand your frustration. I think, if I were you, I would talk to the County Judge personally. I have found him to be a fair minded person. It's important that you gather all of her medical bills from the accident and have them ready for his review.
The best of luck to you and your fianc

To Whom It May Concern:
For the last two years turning right from 146 onto 53, I have had this odd feeling everytime I hit the pothole. I spoke with Carter many times and guess what. Still not fixed. Now 2011 it is worse, as is in need of patching. I have already bent one wheel and am afraid it is going to happen to others. Please have them fix this ASAP. It also doesn't feel so well to spill coffee in your lap as you make the turn ;)
Thanks,
Kevin Cronion
Kevin, thanks for letting me know about this. Hwy 146 and 53 are both State highways and are the responsibility of the State. I have contacted my Public Works Director who will report it to the State Hwy. Department and it should be fixed soon if not already.
Bill
Mr.Mayor, I am a fellow skateboarder in this city and I've been hearing alot about you wanting to remove the skate park next to the fire station. I am here asking you why would you want to do this? That would remove the only place i am allowed to skate and make even more difficult for me not to street skate local spots. Also where would you put the extra ramps?
First I want to thank you for your question and comment. My hope and plans for the La Grange Skate Park is to move it. Keeping it close to its present location this location was never intended to be permanent. I would like to see a permanent concrete skate park to replace the one we have now. I have always thought the skate park is a great idea from its conception. What I want to is make a more user friendly place for both families and young adults to both exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
I would like to invite you to join us Feb 12th at the James Beaumont Community Center 307 West Jefferson from 10am to about 4pm for a discussion with the University of Cincinnati Design School to talk about designing public spaces that you and your family can use
