Sidewalk Repair Program
Overview
The City of La Grange Sidewalk Repair Program oversees the maintenance of the City's sidewalks. The program’s goal is to ensure that all sidewalks are safe and accessible for all pedestrians. As in many other cities, The City of La Grange requires that adjacent property owners keep their sidewalks in good repair and safe for public travel. This means keeping the sidewalk clear from vegetation overgrowth, snow and ice accumulation, as well as making repairs to the sidewalks when damaged. The Program will help assist property owners with the costly repairs needed for the sidewalks adjacent to their property. This program will be a one-time initiative that will span over the course of the next few years.
Funding
The program funding will be based on the money available during the current fiscal year budget. The City of LaGrange has allotted money in the 2016-2017 fiscal year budget. The City will be covering 100% of the cost for repairs under this program when funding is available.
Prioritizing
The Public Works Department performs an annual assessment that grades the condition of the current sidewalks and determines if repairs need to be made. Determining the sidewalks that need repaired under this program will be at the discretion of the City of La Grange, and based upon the Public Works assessment. Driveway aprons do not qualify for repair under this program and is the responsibility of the homeowner.
What’s next?
The Public Works Department will begin making repairs in the coming weeks. Property owners do not have to call or sign up for this program. Property owners that have any questions are welcome to call the Public Works Department at (502) 222-8954.
